Kate Reasons

Here's my preschooler.
Right before we enter the car and she begins the list of
reasons she shouldn't go:
"It makes me too tired."
"I need a time out."
"It's too much gas to drive there."
"Mommy, you will be sad when I am gone."
"I'll miss what happens on Maggie and the Ferocious Beast."
"I need to make my bed."
"I might throw up."
"I'm already smarter than you."
I really do love that she goes.
As soon as I drop her off,
I anxiously await some good quality time together.
As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Don't you Want to be a Fairy

Kate and I just spent 30 minutes
and we BOTH had fun!
We crrated Kate's fairy by picking out hair color and style;
bejeweled her arm, ankle and hair;
fashioned an ensemble;
and were able to pick the name Peanut.
Which just happens to be Katey's nick name.
If you have a daughter, this was a fab way to spend a little time together.
If you don't, it was fun for me as I pictured the fairies from when I was young
flying through the flowers and garden.
(I was their Queen)
I believe I will return and make my very own.

What Mood Today?

Kate is not a morning chick. (she is my mini me)

She needs some time to herself as she gathers her faculties and decides what mood she'll be in for the day. (as do I)

Today, Pooh came along for the Decision.

Looks like it's going to be a quiet day. (that is a Wonderful choice)

Thank you, Pooh.

To Dance.... To Dream

Bought these today:
I know Kate will dance beautifully.
She can do the Chinese splits (is that what they are called?).
She is very bendy.
She loves to show me her twirls.
She loves to explain how she can kick her leg high to her Daddy.
At her first recital, I am to bring her Chocolates and Wil will bring her Flowers.
I never took ANY dance classes. I have always wanted to glide when I walk.... I stumble and lumber. Do you think it's too late to learn?

Foolish Phenomenon

So, Kate has an interesting phenomenon with pants. Her backside is constantly exposed. I am always telling her, "Katey, your buns are hanging out."
"Oh. I'm sorry, Mommy," she replies.
That is how this conversation goes all day long.
But today, she mixed things up. I stated my line, on cue and with perfect inflection. Kate turned and began to leave. With a sly grin she flipped her head, brushed hair out her eyes and boldly stated.... "I know they are. April Fool's on you, Mom."

Who am I trying to fool?

This is what Kate wanted for breakfast.
I am not a morning person, so this is what Kate got for breakfast. (Or she would have started asking me questions and talking incessantly... but it is the whining I feared the most this a.m.) I like to start conversations around 10:04 a.m. She gets up too early.
This is what I wanted for breakfast. No, not in a dirty way. I just really hoped he had gotten my request for home help and would be here bright and early to, you know, help. Good Morning, Ty.... sigh. AND... uh...good morning to you too, Wil. I LOVE YOU, HONEY!!!!!

My Kate

How much longer will she hold to my apron strings? How much longer will she need my help to do up buttons and how much longer will she ask me to brush her hair?

We had a beautiful evening out together. Her whispers and giggles tickled my ears on the drive to Salt Lake for the show. "I'm so excited we're going" she said to herself. She held my hand all night and kept saying "thank you."

Kate loved the Princesses, dinner and shopping. I loved every minute we had- just the two of us. Thank you , Joel.

(a special thanks to my cousin, Audrey for capturing a memory. Nov. 2007-Grandma's gravesite)

GNO!!!

Surprise Kate! The King of the Hideout surprised us with tickets! It's a girls nite out!

I told Katey I had a surprise for the two of us. Her shoulders slumped and said, "I already know-we're painting." (Seems mommy tries too many crafts as a fun, family activity.

I responded quickly with "Nope. We're going somewhere. No boys allowed."

She started to giggle and cry at the same time. "Is it Disney Princesses on Ice...?" Hope seeping from the question.

How did she know? I couldn't deny the hope. Quickly responded with a yes. Tears of joy brimming and spilling from her gray eyes. You know it's special when tears come from happiness at such a young age. Well, I'm off to primp and prime my princess!

See you there, Jess, Tayler and Rylee!!!!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Kate and Reese participate in a playgroup once a week. Today's focus is "What do you want to be when you grow up?" They are supposed to dress the part. Katey chose to be a BAKER-MOM. Don't you just love the apron? Thanks, Gaggie...(that's what our kids call our mom, instead of Grandma) for the perfect accessory And then told me she would make lunch. She and Luke chose chips and salsa. Not so heart-healthy in the HIDEOUT today.... it's all about convenience.

Reese wants to be a PAINTER-GIRL...it all starts with Crayola! You color my world, Roo.

Pink p.j.'s

While ticking off the items to accomplish for a smooth HIDEOUT morn, the Recruiter asked for a liquid to wet her whistle. She then grabbed her throat and dramatically, scratched out, "I can't talk". Hmmm... my presidential brain kicked into gear and for a moment in time I had thoughts of a blissfully, silent day... Back to reality. Shook out the chirping crickets in my mind (goodbye, little friends) and poured the cup of juice. "Thank you, Mommy. I had to ask you a question...." And so it begins.

But this isn't a downer. Actually, while commencing our chit-chat, I took a good look at our TOKEN girl. Head to toe in pink footed p.j.'s. The thought came over me that this might be the last time I see her or any of my entourage, for that matter, in Jammies with feet. You see, the weather is warming and I just can't see her wanting these next year. She's my very own "Pink Nightmare" (from the movie 'A Christmas Story'). I had to take a picture. Here she is, my mini-me. My shadow. My baby...

Ok. revelry over. She's telling me (deep moan on her part, very breathy) "Mom...my back. It hurts. I can't move."

"Katey. You still need to pick up your shoes."

"Fine. It doesn't really hurt anyway."

(Deep sigh... on my part) So tell me, how was YOUR morning?
Edit to post... Turns out Reese wore her pink pj's last night, too... Gave Katey a call this am to tell her she likes her choice in nighttime dress and sent us a picture to prove it!
